Being unequally yoked
2 Corinthians 6:14-17 Amplified Bible, says:
"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers [do not make mismated alliances with them or come under a different yoke with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness?
What harmony can there be between Christ and Belial [the devil]? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor,"
The previous passages are self-explanatory. These principles work whether you are a Christian or not.
In a non-Christian world if those whom you are involved in business with, or work with, think differently than you do, or have different goals, even different motivations, there will be conflict, in action, in communication and in concepts.
You will have those who are show offs, trying to boss every one around, or trying to kiss up to the boss, and then you have those who just want to do their job. It takes a true professional to look beyond these differences and still perform at their best. (Can you tell I deal with that?)
Look at our Government, Why is there a Democratic and a Republican party? Because they see things differently, although they do seem to reason together on occasion.
In the Marriage, we find the mystery of Marriage from the book of Ephesians 5:32 that would line up with the previous passage of 2 Corinthians 6:15. One partner being a believer, and the other a non-believer. Jesus even tells us how to get out of such a marriage in the Gospels.
How many times have we seen a couple in love from different faiths like Jewish or Catholic and one of the potential partners has to convert to the others faith so that there will be harmony. In addition, Holidays would really be a mess.
Moreover, we all know the issues of mixed race marriages, although I don't see this as being unequally yoked unless they are from totally different cultures or countries, like Western and Eastern, where there are obvious language issues and other misunderstandings.
