THE ACT
I was once all things to everyone
Now I merely pretend to be
I act from behind a veil of emptiness
I wash my face to hide the trace
That all is not well
That all is not well
Acting was once easy
All believed, even I
But the performance requires effortso much effort
My strength fails me
Emotions flee me
How long can the act go on
Signs creep through, subtle doubts emerge
Would to God I could close the curtain
But there is no curtain
So the act goes on
And the crowd believes, because they want to believe
Allowing the act to continue onuntil all shall fade to black
