I came across this topic while rating articles a few days ago. I found it very stunning that someone, somewhere, would be brazen enough to even consider asking a question like this. I even posed this question to my husband, and even he was stunned that someone would ask a question like this. After he managed to get his thoughts together, and get his mouth to work where he could speak, he said this: "Well duh, that's a dumb question! Anyone in their right mind would choose only plus size models to model plus size clothing."

Ok, you know that I would just have to agree with him on this one. If a designer wants to market plus size clothing to plus size women, they need to use plus size models. There is absolutely no use of using a skinny, underweight, bone thin size 2 model to market clothing that is made to fit a woman who is a size 18+. It makes a woman, who is a plus size, very upset when a clothing company, or a designer claims that they cater to the plus size female community, when they do not.

This really irks me, there is clothing out there that says either one size fits all or one size fits most. I have personally found out that neither of these is true. If you are over a certain size (we will say a 10), you can forget about fitting into either one of these categories. The designers need to change that statement (which believe it or not is false advertisement in any language), to one that says one size fits few or some. That way those of us that are more full-figured, who have more meat on our bones, may not get so upset when we go to try on clothes.

My husband made this point, and I have to admit that I have to agree with him 100% (oy vey! Twice in one article. I hate it when that happens! hee-hee):

"You would not want a plus size model modeling clothing for a size 2 person. So why would you want a size 2 person modeling clothing that is made for a plus size woman? Either way the clothing would not look right on the other person, because the clothing is tailored to fit the model wearing it. And when it is displayed to the public, the ad says that it is made to fit a certain size woman. You think that since it looks good on the model, it will look good one you. When you get to the store to try it on, reality hits you, and you realize that the clothing looks better on the model in the magazine. So why don't the designers get off of their butts, swallow their thoughts about plus size models, and just use the proper size model for the proper size clothing? A company that chooses to not use the proper model for the proper size clothing, should be held, in some way, liable for false advertisement. Because that is exactly what it is."

On the other hand I really do have to commend stores like Lane Bryant for catering to the woman of a more full-figured nature. They realize that the entire world is not a size 2, and that those of us who are a larger size do deserve some very nice clothing to wear. They have clothing that is beautiful, and stylish, and it helps the full figured woman to look her best.

Designers need to realize that everyone in the world is not a size 0-14, nor will they ever be. They need to understand that thare are full-figured women out there, who want clothes that look good on them, not just the display at the store or those teeny tiny, wafer thin, twiggy like models (no offense to Twiggy) that they choose to model the clothing. Designers need to start seeing the full figured woman for exactly who she is, a person, a human with emotions, and start using full-figured models to model the clothing that is made for the more full-figured, well-endowed woman.
