Attending interviews at this crucial period era of time when the economy is in a deep hole and even getting an interview might seem to be considered lucky for the few that do get them, converting an interview into a full time job offer is indeed a uphill task.
Although most advisers on interviewers would suggest the same generic advice like referring to company website, notching up interview and speaking skills etc, people must learn to be innovative. Yes, People must learn to be innovate not just at the job, but even before like at the interview and that in my view would be regarded as a very fresh thing to do in an interview.
Let me give an example. Most people during interviews would basically tend to overwhelm the person interviewing them by citing and stating an full fledged bio-data verbally. If on the other hand, if they were to do something different like do a power point presentation with illustrations and pointers jotted in a slide format, I think that would be a much more pleasing for the interviewer to listen to and would definitely be something different for the usual jargon that people tend to vomit out to every other prospective employer about themselves.
Of course, there are limits to which one could be different at an interview. Doing a presentation is just one of the many ways to differentiate yourself. The idea here is to do something different like doing a crazy thing as wearing your left shoe on your right foot.
Being innovative also has to do a lot with luck. If your interviewer for some reason dislikes the way you present to him at the interviewer (I mean the innovative way here), then no matter how good your approach was to that interview, you would still not be considered for the job even though the same approach may very be considered fabulous by some other interviewers.
Attending interviews is also about taking chances. One could really be very vocal about one's achievement but it all depends on the situation which is why I have always felt that no matter how much preparation goes into doing well at an interview, it is those few moments which really tests your skin out. One will really need to act according to the situation and play into the interviewer's hands such that you will be considered for the job.
