My favorite seasonal pajamas

by Kelly Trickett

Pajamas as entertainment

Pajamas in our house are more than just sleepwear; they are a personal statement of individuality, a fashion statement, and a competition to find the most creative, yet comfortable, seasonal pajamas.

During the winter, the footed, flannel pajamas seem to win the race. Of course, the bigger you are (like mom and dad), the sillier they look, but that can be played upon by buying the silliest pattern you can find. Christmas patterns and snow scenes seem to be the most dominant. They are so comfortable and warm, not to mention fun to wear. The flannel nightgowns are a popular second, with Dad taking first place one year (unforgettable!).

In the springtime, we are eager to pull out the cotton pajamas, growing weary of flannel. Because we are a family that plays hard, even in our pajamas, even the girls prefer two-piece sets over nightgowns, and Dad runs for the cartoon pajama pants.

During the summer, silks and silk-type fabrics rule our pajama world. The girls and Mom tend to go for pretty at this time of year, putting the silly away until next winter and spring. Short sets, soft and smooth, cool to the touch, rule the evening. The contest now is who can find the prettiest patterns. Even Dad goes for the silk boxers as pajamas.

Fall rolls around, and the silk pajamas take turns with cottons. Beautiful patterns get mixed with the most outrageous Halloween and Thanksgiving patterns we can find.

Even when picking out pajamas as gifts, we try to find the silly and funny, the most unusual, the ones that make you smile every time you put them on.
