It may seem hard to get healthy food without spending much money for it. This may be true but I am a living example that healthy food does not really require a lot of money. There are a lot of ways on how you could just spend a smaller amount of money for a healthy and sumptuous meal.
I am still in college and as you know, college students really have to budget their allowance since many are still not earning a good amount to make them survive with their needs. In my country, almost all of the college students still depend from their parents regarding everything that has to do with their schooling so it is a must for them to really save enough amount of money.
AVOID EXPENSIVE RESTAURANTS AND FOOD CHAINS
You could treat yourself in expensive restaurants from time to time but you should never make it a habit to eat there. The prices there are too expensive such that you should only eat there during occasions. You should also avoid eating in food chains since many foods there are not really that healthy since they are already processed. Processed foods contain chemicals that could increase the chances of getting cancer.
You may be blinded by the advertisements that these food chains have on television especially if they offer promos or they cut down prices. You may think that you could save by eating them but the truth is, they are not healthy and they cannot provide for the daily nutritional needs of your body. Therefore, it would just be a waste of time and money to always eat on them.
COOK YOUR OWN FOOD
There is big savings whenever you prepare your own food. Aside from the savings, you will be sure that the food you are eating is fresh and that it is healthy. Try to buy meat and vegetables. If possible, you could buy meat from the wet market and not in supermarkets since they are often more expensive. If you are near a fishing village, you may opt to buy fish in bulk since it is far cheaper there than in commercial establishments. If you are near a farm of crops and vegetables, you may also buy from there since you could save a lot. You would be able to buy food with the same nutritional value at a lower price.
CHOOSE THE FOOD YOU BUY
It doesn't mean, however, that you should buy imported meat or vegetables when you cook. If you have the option of buying local products, you should choose them over the imported ones since you could truly save a lot by utilizing these things. As long as the food you buy are fresh and nutritious, that would already suffice your nutritional needs.
PACK YOUR LUNCH
As a student, I once had a habit of eating meals in the canteen or in food chains thinking that I could save from it than cooking. However, I was really wrong. Now that I have my own cooking utensils in my apartment, whenever I cook dinner, I would already leave something for lunch. I would just reheat the food in the morning and I pack it for lunch. As days passed, I have noticed that I was able to save a lot because of what I had been doing. It feels great that I could save money while I also eat delicious and nutritious food.
These things would really help you to start saving your money while you eat healthy. Try to live by these simple principles and you will surely have a lot of money that can be used in more important things.
