Once upon a time
There was a little doll
And once upon a time
There was a little boy
A playful sort was he
And she was o so coy
He took the little doll
Down off her little shelf
He polished her porcelain face
And dressed her all in lace.
I'm in love with you he said
All those nights she shared his bed
And poets have wrote
Of the promises he made
And the plans that they laid
A love never to fade
And she truly loved the little boy
With all her little cloth heart
So happy was she to be his toy
His puppet right from the start
But soon enough the little boy
Grew bored of the little doll
He was a playful sort after all
He wanted something prettier
And perhaps not quite so small.
So he cast aside his plaything
And left without a backward glance
Bewildered and crying
She thought only of dying
Her little cloth heart now turned to stone
Her porcelain face- no longer shining
Cast out in the world completely alone
And the playful boy
Soon found a new doll to call his own
A lovely thing- more to his taste.
And so the past was all a waste.
And all the kings horses
And all the kings men
Cannot put the doll back together again.

From God we
All are
Making our dresses
From the cultivated
Mind by Him
The dolls we make
From the cultivated

“The Dusty Doll”
Rust colored, ragged, rotten,
dust covered, and forgotten.
That is at present what is
“Mommy,” she said
As a little girl tugged
On her mother’s blouse
“I want a doll to be hugged.”
