slower due to the wider contact. Therefore, this consideration would go hand in hand with the first consideration stated in this article since the width of the contact of the kayak would greatly affect its speed and stability.
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE
This consideration would also greatly affect your decision on what kayak to buy. If you are a novice or a new paddler, it is suggested that you go with the slower boats first, meaning, the broader kayaks. You really don't need speed during your early sailings since you first have to condition and familiarize yourself with the boat. The skill of learning how to stabilize the boat is more important than speed in your early days with the sport. You just choose the narrow and fast kayaks if you already have the grasp of how to stabilize the boat.
Fitness of the paddler should also be considered in buying kayak. A paddler who can keep a fast moving kayak would surely perform well when it comes to stabilizing the boat. Therefore, it is advised to practice paddling so that you would be trained well and you would be fit enough to maneuver the kayak without compromising speed and stability.
VOLUME
The volume of the kayak with the paddler is also a thing to consider in buying kayak. Make sure that the kayak has a feature that could lessen the flooding of the deck since this could lessen the paddler's capacity of manning the boat. Check if the height of the kayak's hull and deck can be increased to help lessen the chances of flooding the deck. Another thing that would affect volume is the roughness of the water. The rougher the water, the more volume is needed to stabilize the boat, hence, another choice of keeping the required volume is to use longer kayaks to keep sailing along and over the top of the waves.
PRICE AND BRAND
The famous brands of kayaks, especially in New Zealand, include Sisson, JJK, Ruahine and Venture out. The decision on which brand to use would just depend on you since they had been proven to provide good quality kayaks. The prices of these brands as well as the other kayaks out in the market range from 2000 to 3000 dollars. Before you choose which one to buy, it is important to consider the things stated previously in this article and most of all, you need to consider your budget. Make sure you choose the kayak that would be worth your money.
