Tips for a beginning snorkeler

Snorkeling is a great hobby to get in touch with nature on the seas. It is really fun experience to see the beauty of nature below sea level. You will come to see different creatures like colorful fishes, corals, sea anemones and many other things that can just be offered by the bounties of the oceans.

The question is, "What do you really need to know about snorkeling as a beginner?" Snorkeling may just seem to be a simple hobby but there are really a lot of considerations regarding the said activity. You need to know the dos and don'ts about it and you need to know the equipment that you will use in it.

The first thing to consider in snorkeling is the mask and snorkel. Make sure that the mask fits in you. You first try it with the strap loosened and then you tighten it to fit in your face. Make sure it fits properly so that water won't go on the inside since this will be irritating to your eyes. Another consideration of the mask is your vision. Make sure that you could see clearly whenever the mask is placed.

Another thing that you should know about the using the mask is that there could be fogging that would affect your vision. You could buy defoggers from the SCUBA shops or you could try to clean the inner side of the goggles with water that has dissolved detergent soap using your fingers and then you rinse it with water.

Fins are also helpful in snorkeling since it helps you to move well in water. It helps you to become faster in going down but the thing that you should consider is that you should choose the fins. Make sure that it provides you with comfort since some fins may not be comfortable to use.

You should also make sure that you don't have sinus or ear problems when you do snorkeling since it could trigger pain as you go deeper into the water. Make sure also that when you snorkel, your ear is clear and you could do it by having a certain exercise. You hold your nose with your fingers and you blow air gently. This will help clear your ears.

You should also choose the site where you will snorkel. Make sure that the area is safe and especially from hazardous sea creatures. You also have to know the hazards of snorkeling. There are some creatures that need to be avoided. However, creatures like coral reefs and sea urchins are normally found in the sea so all you just do is be careful to be wounded by sharp reefs or be stung by sea urchins so that you will enjoy your snorkeling experience well.
