Great elements for a summer scrap book page are easy to come by. Archiver's, Hobby Lobby and Micheal's supply stores are always filled with seasonal and off-season items to decorate any page. A shopping hint would be to buy decorative elements in the off season so you might be offered a discount on items that are sometimes quite expensive.
I always suggest decorating your pages around your photos. Identify and choose elements within the photos that you want to highlight. Examples of things to look for are; colors, styles, seasons and mood. With summer in mind; consider sunny days, festivals, parks and recreation as options of elements that might be highlighted.
Any scrapbook page can be as complicated or as simple as the creator desires to make it. This article will discuss making a Simple Sun Page. The page idea that follows is kept simple, yet the effect can be quite nice. Try to choose photos that contain sunny days, sun hats, or other sunny dispositions.
One photo will need to be an 8 x 10 as it will be cut to fit inside the large circle centered on the page.
Items Needed: Yellow card stock, 7 + Photos, scissors, circle cutter, straight cutter, adhesive, scrapbook page.
Step 1: Cut all shapes as follows: Using the circle cutter, cut a 6" diameter circle from the yellow card stock.
Step 2: With same circle cutter, cut a 5 1/2" diameter circle from your photo being sure to center over the area you want to have inside.
Step 3: Cut triangles at right angles w=1 1/2", h= 1.75" and cut photos to fit inside accordingly using straight edge cutter.
Final Steps: Adhere your chosen photos to yellow card stock, centering them as much as possible. Lay out the photos so the large circle is centered on the scrapbook page and is surrounded by the triangles with points directed outwards on the page. This will come together as if it were a basic sun. Once the layout positions are identified, you may adhere each piece to the scrapbook page.
Once your Simple Sun is completed, select the area on the page that you would like to write your journaling. Consider recalling who got sunburned, where the photos were taken, the dates of the day, and how nice the sunshine was that day!
If you'd like to add more to the scrapbook page, consider additional embellishments such as some hand scribbled pictures, sunshine stickers, and other fun sunny elements to be scattered around the sun.
Add your Simple Sun scrapbook page to your photo album to enjoy! Remember, no page needs to be complicated, only if you wish it to be!
