Watching movies is supposed to grab you and take you to a world you've never been before. It's relaxing, entertaining, and lets you get away from reality. Foreign films are among the best in my opinion because they are always unique and creative. They usually are entertaining also. Now, I would rather watch a foreign film in it's original language and read subtitles than hearing someone else's voice dubbed over the actors.

Dubbing just ruins a movie. A lot of times the dubbing isn't payed much attention during the process and the actors don't always put forth the emotion behind it. It basically sounds like they're reading from the script rather than acting it out. Now i understand they probably don't want to since it's just their voice being recorded, but when you're watching a film and hearing a voice with no emotion saying lines to a great performance it just ruins everything. Not all foreign films have bad dubbing, but the majority do. Even if a film has great dubbing it still takes away from the overall experience.

There's just something about watching a film in the original language it was made. It adds to the experience. It makes the film seem authentic because you're hearing the actors speak another language. You get the great performances. When you see the actors yell, you hear the emotion. Even though you have to read what they're saying, it doesn't take away from the experience nor is it distracting. I know sometimes the words blend in and sometimes they disappear too fast, but I think it's worth it. It's not that hard to read and watch what's going on in the film. While you're reading, look up a few times. Usually I can kind of see what's going on from peripheral vision.

In conclusion, watching a foreign film that is dubbed doesn't deliver the full package. You're never guaranteed great voice overs and you usually don't get it. What you get are voices over the acting that don't have the necessary emotion or don't match the emotion. It's better to watch a foreign film in its original language to better the experience. You get all the emotion. Even though you have to read, it shouldn't distract you from the performances. Some people might have a harder time reading and watching, but it's worth it. There's just something about watching a foreign film the way it was meant to be watched; listening to the foreign language and reading what is being said.
