One of the former Presidents of America rightly said that everyone in this world has a price tag. If you know what you are worth of, there won't be any hindrance in your way while ascending the corporate ladder. You just need to know how mush potential you have and viola! You're in.
I recollect a course attended by a very well-known personality regarding this aspect of one's career. Knowing one's merits and then negotiating them in this competent world is indeed an art in which you can't stand out without the appropriate skill. How to master yourself in this skill? Don't fret. Just read on.
Besides many things that she said and many acronyms that she used, the only one that stuck to my mind is known as IMAGE Power'. As obvious that IMAGE, being in capitals, is used as an acronym here. I'll discuss each letter of the above-cited acronym for further clarity of the reader and to share a piece of knowledge that I have.
I' stands for Impression. The first image that you leave on the person you talk to is really important. As they say, 1st impression is the last impression. So you generally need to conduct yourself in a manner that must reveal self-respect and confidence.
M' stands for Movement. This includes the way you carry yourself, the body language you exhibit, your gestures.everything. Trembling hands and sweating forehead usually don't yield nice results.
A' stands for Attitude. Your attitude during the whole procession must portray that you are what they need. No need to behave like a person having rod in his neck. Keep the atmosphere lively without compromising over the price tag you've set on your self.
G' stands for Grooming. Your general outlook must represent that you are groomed enough for the position you are going to be placed on.
E' stands for Etiquettes. Unfamiliarity with manners and etiquettes won't let you achieve the target of price you've set on yourself. And burping loudly during the negotiating session is a strict no-no. The results of this can be really out-of-hand.
So even if you get a good degree from a reputable institute, you hail from a respectable family or you just inherited a huge fortune, if you lack the ability to negotiate over your own skills, you are going to land in no where. Remember! We are living in a world where every thing, even the emotions, is being marketed. The more you market yourself, the easier it is for you to land in a position you love.
