Downloadable game review: Scrap Book Paige, by Aisle 5 Games

The first goal of the game is to find scrapbooking embellishments that are hidden in drawers or packages. It reminds me a bit of the "Where's Waldo?" books that were popular in the 1990's. Players are given a list of things to find in a background that is very cluttered, which is about as easy as it was finding Waldo in those large crowds he was always lost in. Fortunately, there is the option of using a magnifying glass, making it much easier to locate the things on the treasure-hunt style list. However, even using the magnifying glass isn't a sure thing, and a few times I truly could not find an item. If that's the case, click on Paige and she will highlight the general area where the item is hidden.

The list may call for multiples, such as "two apples". The player must then individually find and click on two separate apples. Occasionally it may call for something like a butterfly and there will be ten different ones to chose from, or it may ask for a fan and there's only one and it is very cleverly hidden. So while it is easy, there is still some work and thinking involved.

The second part of the game is creating a scrapbook page. Players are presented with a half-finished page, with outlines of where some items need to be placed. Click and drag from the tabbed booklet to the right. Once all the missing pieces are located, the page can be decorate the page as the player likes. When finished, Paige gives you a grade, depending on how much she likes it.

This is definitely not a game for men. Kids may like it for the matching and hunt-and-seek' qualities of it, but this game is obviously directed toward women. More specifically, scrapbookers. I live two blocks from one of the largest scrapbooking stores in the country, but I do not scrapbook. I do mosey in to the store once or twice a year for craft supplies for other projects. The number of papers and letters and stamp pads and hole-punchers and pens and embellishments available is almost ridiculous. I hate it when I am forced to decide between more than a few things, which is probably why scrapbooking does not appeal to me. It can be a very expensive habitany time I go in I somehow manage to spend at least twenty bucks and leave with a very small bag.

For that reason, if I was a serious scrapbooker I think this game would be loads of fun. Click and drag, switch things out, try new things, and when you're done, toss it away and start over again. . . without the crazy expense.

I used up the entire hour of allotted free time on this game and was disappointed when the game was over. Would I play it again? Defintely! Would I buy it? Probably not, but I would think most scrapbooking women would think it adorable and worth the money. 4 out of 5.
