Good chick flicks

There is nothing like a great chick flick. They give us the perfect dose of romance, tears, laughter and heart warming.

Get your popcorn, glass of wine and box of tissues and get comfortable...here is a list of my Top 5 greatest chick flicks (in no particular order)...

1. Bridget Jones Diary
Bridget enters our screens at yet another one of her mother's turkey curry buffet. Rene Zellweger puts in a stunning performance in this as the ever enchanting, British 'singleton' Bridget Jones. It shows a comical portrayal of an average single girl living in an average flat in London with an average job, with an above average looking boss, played by Hugh Grant. It follows her quest for love, accompanied by her mother's relentless efforts to set her up with eligible bachelors, coupled with her insecurities triggered by society's judgment against a single unmarried woman.

The self help books, strategies fuelled by her well meaning best friends, all the typical portrayals of women trying to figure out how to get love, how to keep love etc. fuelled by un-admitted desperation all contribute to this excellent film.

A definite must-see movie which women everywhere can relate to.

2. Pretty Woman
Beautiful Julia Roberts plays a charming and unexpectedly intelligent prostitute, Vivien who, with a stroke of luck, meets wealthy business man Edward Lewis played by the handsome Richard Gere. What starts out to be an arrangement for one night, it extends to one week during which time they start developing feelings for one another.

Their journey takes them through how their extremely different lives come together - she takes his first day off in years and she breaks her no-kissing-on-the-mouth rule. They battle the judgment from upper class society and how their relationship could ever have any prospects.

Pretty Woman is a romantic comedy which touches your heart.

3. Grease
Cool guy Danny, a member of the high-school self named group the T-birds meets good girl Australian Sandy during the summer romance. As term starts we see Danny impressing his fellow T-birds with exaggerated extracts from his summer romance. We are also introduced to the Pink Ladies, the female group where Frenchie welcomes her Australian cousin to her first day at their school - Sandy.

Through music, scandal and tears we see our hopelessly devoted Olivia Newton John (Sandy) go through her journey alongside John Travolta (Danny) which finally makes them succumb to their differences and brings them together.

A timeless classic
