This dessert is absolutely heavenly. Give it a try when you get together with family and friends, it's sure to be a delectable delight.

Surprise Meringues

3 egg whites
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 cup sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup (6 oz.) miniature semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

In a mixing bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, salt, and vanilla, beating until soft peaks form and sugar is dissolved. About 5-8 minutes. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet (pan). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on a baking sheet (pan). Store in an air-tight container.

Yield 4 dozen
