Poetry: Courage

Death just passed me,
In the form of speeding metal,
It came as if it wer an omen,
An omen to go no further,
A sign that violent doom was a step away,
I cowered like a frightened puppy,
Shaken and intimidated I lifted a foot,
To set it on the earth behind me,
It would be safe,
It would be sanctuary,
It would be easy,
A glimmer of reassurance,
That everything would be alright,
But something else came before this happened,
Something neither physical nor ethereal,
It was a shove,
It was a driving force,
That drove me like a bulldozer,
So I ran forward,
All muscles were at peak tension,
Limbs flailing at unfeasible speed,
Adrenaline had commandeered my mind,
And I was stationed at my soul,
Now death was all around me,
Above and Below,
Behind and in front,
To the left and to the right,
It beckoned to me,
Now it too was offering a way out,
But now something else surrouned me,
It gripped me closer than death ever could,
It shielded me from harm and gave me strength,

It...... was courage,
Courage got me to the other side,

And away from death.
