Downloadable game review: Pop a Tronic, by Big Blue Bubble

The object of this chemistry themed arcade game is to pop three or more bubbles of the same color using your bubble popper before the screen fills. The more bubbles you pop the higher your score enabling you to go onto the next level.

As well as popping bubbles you can also inhale them! This means you can pick up one bubble, say a red one, and move it to a group of other red bubbles. You also get bombs and color selectors which appear throughout the game as power-ups allowing you to pop bubbles of the same color en-mass for a higher score.

The levels are all pretty similar although obviously they get harder as you go through the game with new colors being introduced and different power-ups but mainly it's all about clicking those bubbles as quick as you can.

If you were thinking that's easy, I'll just click randomly on any bubble - You can't! If you click and there are not 3 or more of the same color surrounding the bubble it becomes deactivated, turning gray so that it can't be removed until it reaches the bottom row.

The music is similar to other arcade / puzzle games while the graphics are really good. Bright and detailed to make you think you're playing inside a chemistry lab with levers and beakers surrounding the screen.

It's a simple enough game played using the left and right mouse buttons, repetitive yet strangely addictive as you try to get onto that next level for a higher score to unlock one of the other game modes without loosing your concentration and loosing the level.

The game is most suited towards kids and teens although adults would easily be able to wile away the odd hour popping and inhaling bubbles, especially if they like Tetris style games! It's what a like to call a time-waster game, something to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon when you have nothing better to do... or if you are putting off doing your house work / homework etc a little bit longer!

However, whilst this game is entertaining and the chemistry theme is different I wouldn't actually go and buy it... There are plenty of free games online which are similar in game play to Pop a Tronic, just minus the lab theme.
