Votes in an election come down to one question: Do I like the candidate or not? Now the last time I checked we all answer that based off emotions. Sure we would all like to believe we do things in a very logical, reasonable manner. However, this not the case. The way we feel about someone drives most of our choices. Which includes who we vote for in an election.
We do take into consideration the political stances of a candidate. Do they have my interest covered? Will they increase taxes? Will they provide better laws for criminal justice? Will they lower gas prices? Those are all questions that we think about and more. But to even think for one minute that if a candidate was for all the things we believed in and for some reason, your instincts within that gut feeling. You know that feeling, we all have it instinctively implanted in our gut to make us feel one way or another about a person or situation. If that feeling was there we wouldn't even fathom to vote for that candidate. Why because we don't feel right about it. Sure when in comes to voting for two bad candidates, some logic would win over. Why because we feel the same way about both. However, if we had two equally great candidates what would we more likely use as the deciding factor. Our feeling, the emotions we have for one over the other.
If we voted for our presidents and states people based on reason, we wouldn't be so affected by scandals. Scandals have nothing to do with passing laws or legislation, but everything to do with how we are going to feel about someone. We see this all the time. Someone who does great work for their community and country can easily be slatted by a single scandal. Having their skeletons from the closets exposed to the public. To be judged for once was or once is their private life. Are we going to logically reason with ourselves and say no big deal? No, the average American voter will feel that this individual has done something terribly bad and shouldn't be in office regardless of his/her accomplishments.
I believe that my feelings for someone do not solely represent who I would vote for. However, I know that when it comes down to it I would never vote for someone I didn't like. Even if they were in representing the same party that I support. The reasoning behind why we do the things we do are highly driven by the way we feel. That's why we are human beings. No logic, no reasoning; only feelings driven by our hearts desires. We desire a connection with another individual. That individual in this case is candidates of an election.
