Poetry: On love

Concrete Garden (The Builder's Tale)

I was misinformed of your intent
When you supplied me with cement
And told me to make what I will
Yes, you gave me carte blanche
Then walked off in a trance
And left me with your time to fill
Now would you mind explaining
Once you've stopped complaining
What did you expect me to grow
In a garden made of paving stones?

I couldn't understand you're attitude
Or what was motivating you
Your lack of feeling nearly broke my heart
Your concrete garden may last a while
It may crumble but will never die
Because it has no life from the start
Now I can only repeat it
Why do you get so heated
When I ask you who will go
To your garden made of paving stones?

You say you want something to last
Not wanting to live off the past
Gazing at your memories from afar
But to grow a garden you need the rain
To know love you must feel the pain
You've just got to accept the way things are
You've got to learn to roll your falls
And go wherever your heart calls
Or you'll just wind up alone
In a garden made of paving stones
