My ideal wrestling dream match

When I think of dream matches I always think of a one on one confrontation between 2 icons of wrestling that would have me on the edge of my seat all the way through. Usually I hear from some people that they want a special stipulation for there dream match, I always thought that may be a good idea but recently I am thinking that the reason stipulations are added to normal matches is because the one on one match between 2 wrestlers is not enough to garner the fans interest.

To me if you put a stipulation on a dream match, then it ceases to be a dream match. As it is possible to have just 2 wrestlers doing what they do best in the middle of the ring and for that match to be beyond any expectations. For example Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat in the 80's they had hundreds of matches each match better than the last, and the fact that both men were such great wrestlers scientifically ensured that the fans would be getting a fantastic match.

For my dream match I would have The Rock vs Shawn Michaels, 2 of the greatest entertainers in WWE history. If you go back to 2000 and just watch The Rock come down to the ring and listen to the reaction he gets from the crowd it is beyond anything I have seen before. And just watch anytime Shawn Michaels music hits the fans go crazy for HBK.

My point with this is that what measures a dream match is not who does the flashiest moves, it's not who flies out the ring the most time and it's not how many household appliances are used during this match. The thing that makes a wrestling match the best is the reaction of the fans, for example The Rock vs Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 18 take away the chants and cheers for both men and you are left with a sub par match. If there is a lot of reaction from the crowd and both wrestlers or one of them has limited wrestling skills as long as they know what they are doing then you don't need a fantastic catch as catch can repertoire.

And The Rock vs Shawn Michaels would no doubt get huge reactions, 2 of the most popular wrestlers in WWE history; it really wouldn't matter on how great they were in the ring as long as there is a fair amount of crowd interaction the match will seem better than it is based on just wrestling skill. Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior pretty much proves my point on that.

And the fact that The Rock and Shawn Michaels are fantastic wrestlers would make this match even more enjoyable, both men obtain a large amount of ring psychology and popularity and that's what would make this a true dream match.
