Preventing and treating colic in babies

by Dee Schneider

Created on: September 25, 2008

There is a cure for "colic".
Your Doctor will invariably tell you there isn't, and most baby books will not offer much help either.
My second baby was born via emergency ceasarean. He was transverse, thus there was not another option.
I remember looking up at the cold, steel light above me as I lay paralysed on the operating table. What I saw will haunt me forever.

Why did they not warn me to not look up?
As clear as day, as if it were a mirror, the light was reflecting everything that was happening behind the screen.
First I saw blood, then my abdomen - then my insides.
I almost passed out.
then it happened - I glipsed my baby's feet. From that moment, as horrendous as it was, I couldn't look away.
In shock, and with tears streaming down my face - I turned to my husband and excitedly said "Oh my god, I can see my baby".
What I saw next flabberghasted me.
I witnessed the Doctors grabbing my son by both feet and yanking him. They yanked him hard. They then violently rotated him several times in a clockwise direction, - then literally ripped my baby from my body.

As soon as my son was born he started crying - and didn't stop.
He was shaking, and screaming as if in excruciating pain.
I asked the doctors at the time "is this because he had such a traumatic birth?"
the response I got was cold, they shook their heads and said "no, of course not", but in a way that clearly communicated that they thought my question was ridiculous.

By the time my son was 4 weeks old, I was beside myself.
I could not stop him crying. Depression was setting in.
My poor son cried non stop, 24 hrs of the day. The only time he would not cry, was when he would fall asleep from pure exhaustion, only to wake again 15 minutes later and resume the hysteria.

I didn't know what to do. I was withdrawn, not eating, not bonding with my son, unable to attend to my 18mth old - and snapping at my husband.

I had been having regular chiropractic care for the last four years. My chiropractor had previously astounded me with his ability to "cure" many complaints.
My family and I have relied upon him at times when the medical people could not help. We have presented to his office with ailments ranging from sore throats, to blocked bowels, dislocated bones and everything in between. I thought of him as my "miracle worker", he was a lot more modest of course.

Surely he could help me with this?

After explaining over the phone how bad the situation was, I was scheduled to see my chiro the next day.

My chiropractor was actually a two
