"Addison, I'm scared, can I sleep with you?" A sleepy six year old asked her older sister.
"Sure, hop in, Kay. Try to go to sleep tonight. I'm sure mom and dad will stop fighting soon." Addison tried her best to comfort her sister for the fifth night that week.
"But what if they don't?"
"Let's just try to sleep; everything will be alright in the morning." Addison lied.
Everything usually was alright in the morning. Their parents never wanted to fight around the kids, so they only argued at night. They just never thought of the little ears that could hear them upstairs.
That morning Jordan came into Addison's room early. He noticed something just wasn't right. Their father was no where in sight, and Jennifer was in her room crying. He whispered to Addison to make sure they don't wake up little Kay. Jordan and Addison being 13 and 9 were old enough to realize that their parents might get a divorce. They both wished really deep down in their hearts that they would get a divorce so the fights will stop. But they both felt guilty for thinking that. But they were sad for what their mother and baby sister will go through. They both decided they won't mention anything to Keaton, that that should be left up to Jennifer.
"Jay," an innocent petite voice rang through Jordan and Addison's ears. They turned around to see Keaton standing behind them in the hallway. She was tugging at Jordon's shirt and rubbing her eyes while holding her favorite stuffed animal.
"What is it Kay?" Jordon asked kindly. It broke both of their hearts to see Keaton like this: to think how clueless she is that she may never see her daddy again.
"What's wrong? Why are you two standing out here talking?" Keaton asked, now looking at her big brother in the eyes. Her eyes had bags under them, evidence that she had the same sleepless nights as her older siblings because of their father.
Jordon picked up Keaton and held her tight. As he thought about what her life will be like now, growing up hardly knowing her father, he cried. Both he and Addison were old enough to remember their father, but will she remember him at the tender age of six? Will she remember the way he smiled and joked around with them? Or
