Man and wife: The closest friendship

In an ideal world, the relationship between a man and wife should be the closest but in reality; marriages fall short in many ways. The person you married changes over the years and sometimes you cannot even understand what it was that brought the two of you together in the first place. But if  you stick it out and do not give up on each other through all the problems that life presents to you, then you will have a relationship that is not only close but built on a solid foundation.

Physical closeness and intimacy is an aspect of marriage that brings two individuals together in a bond that compares to no other because it is through this closeness that you build a family and home together. Bringing up children, planning their futures together and making a house into a family home are all the products of a loving and close bond that exists between a married couple. Sometimes in the busy lives that we lead we forget to tell each other how much we care, in a marriage this becomes even more important. The importance of keeping the love alive no matter how long you have been married is what being close all is about. It is the warmth of this closeness that will then radiate into all other aspects of your life.

Communicating with one another on every part of your life and being open and honest with each other to avoid areas of doubt developing is vital in a marriage. To be able to joke together and share things that you cannot tell anyone apart from your partner are things that only true friends enjoy. This is because you are yourself with each other, there are no masks, everything that you say and do is genuine and heartfelt. Whether it is arguing about something you do not like or stating an opinion about each other, everything is allowed to be said so that changes can be made and you can move forward in a positive direction.

Sometimes the situations around us test the strength of a marriage; it can be financial difficulties or some other problem that arises that causes differences or arguments. This is when your closeness as a couple is put to the test. How you both cope with the problems will depend on how much both of you mean to each other and how much you can be there for each other. Some couples pass this test while others break up and move on. The ones that stay with each other do so because their love and closeness means a lot and they will fight any obstacle to stay together. It is for this reason that one of the vows of a marriage are "in sickness and in health, for better or worse, for richer, for poorer until death do us part".

No matter how times have changed and how modern people have become in their ideas and behaviour one thing that has stood the test of time is marriage. People still get married with all the pomp and festivities that they used to all those years ago. This has not changed and will not change. It is a relationship that human beings have been blessed with because in each other they can have the best friend any person can hope and pray to have.
