Book reviews: The Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman

When I first heard about this book I was intrigued by the concept that people could be a part of a simple 5 language system. As curiosity took over I went in search of this book to see what it was all about. Once I read the book I was convinced. Gary Chapman has displayed beautifully in his words what it means to feel loved, be loved, want love, and get love. This is a truly inspiring piece that couples all over will enjoy.

As I read this book I found myself trying to find out what category each of my family members fell into. I was so engulfed in the idea that we each have our love tank and when full we give love and receive love in ways we never thought possible.

I especially liked the sections where he discusses asking versus demanding of your spouse. Often times I come across many couples that once settled into marriage just demand instead of ask and don't realize the impact of this to ones emotions.

The way the stories and explanations of each love language are revealed you can find them oddly familiar. You visualized the couple and knew in many ways exactly what they were going through. You find yourself relating on some level to the experiences given in this book and you silently reflect on how this could benefit you.

Not all relationships struggle to these levels, but my experience has taught me that if you start to put these factors in place and find the love language of your significant other than you will never have to experience these situations as laid out in his book.

I think all couples should read this book, find the love language of your significant other, and give a few of them a try. If your love tank was near full already you will experience the pure joy of taking things to a new level. If your tank is near empty then you can start to fill this tank again by identifying what makes you feel loved.

Just in case you struggle to identify which one you are there is a nice quiz at the end that can help you see where you fit in. With this book you will not be disappointed in your results and you will feel lifted and rejuvenated in your relationship.

The power of love can be incredibly satisfying and bring life to anyone. Knowing the things that make you feel loved and how to express them can bring that feeling to light. Gary Chapman nailed this one on the head and has brought a new found light to my life and can do the same for you. You have to read it to believe it and like me I am sure you will be convinced.
