Mount Olympus folly
One misty summer morning Zeus set out to take a wander
to the summit of Olympus for some quiet time to ponder
on the antics of his children whom he loved with all his heart
but of late they seemed distracted, not so keen to play their part
in the scheme of "all that is", they argued, who should move the moon
and make sure that the sun has risen long before it's noon?
Now in their teens, his Artemis and twin brother Apollo
were less inclined towards his rules, their own they'd rather follow
and no amount of coaxing by himself or his wife Hera
nor even older siblings would hold weight to bring them nearer
to understanding time relies on working as a team
a different plan of action was in order it would seem
So after much deliberation Zeus had an idea
he'd gather all the gods and goddesses together here
on Mount Olympus they'd take part in games like none before
a competition aimed at shaking up those kids for sure
for time would never be the same if sun and moon don't rise
and all the stars are not correctly placed up in the skies
With that Zeus bellowed, lightening struck, the summit lit with flames
for all the world a message "Behold these historic games"
Now Zeus may be the king of gods, but when it came to teens
he didn't really have a clue and kind of lacked the means
to stay a step ahead of their tenacious stubborn ways
had been a thousand years since he'd lived out his teenage days
so while teamwork was what he thought they'd learn from playing sport
what followed was, well let's just say, was nothing of the sort
A torch relay was organized, to head up Zeus's plan
with glowing flame in hand, across the universe they ran
all had their turn to light the sky, Apollo took the lead
which made Artemis jealous, put the wind up her indeed
without a care she aimed her bow straight at her brothers hand
her purpose to take out his torch, no thought where it may land
But land it did, in fine style too, on fireworks display
so carefully set up by Zeus much earlier that day
in seconds a disaster struck, explosions all around
instead of shooting upwards fireworks now hugged the ground
all hell broke loose as coloured sparks chased spectators away
but worse, Apollo wanted his revenge, he'd make her pay!
With people darting here and there across the main grandstand
and Zeus all in a flap trying to keep the crowd in hand
Apollo crept towards the spread of food his mother spent
at least a week preparing for this dazzling event
he filled his bag, and pockets too, with food of every kind
to splat
