Starting writers.
Often new writers don't know where to look for inspiration. This can be quite daunting though if writing for a publication or a specific publishing house, it is wise to read the kind of work that this market publishes. What this does is give you parameters within which to work. It's a starting point and a very good one, as this inspires you to present your work in a manner which is established and accepted by that particular market.
Reading helps you to gain experience on accepted layout, and also to frame your own work in line with that of other accepted writers. It also shows you different kinds of presentation and style, and it is from reading, and using your own imagination that you gain understanding of how your inspirational ideas will work. Having gathered this information, start to look at the complete picture in your mind, making notes at times of inspiration. That moment may pass and if you take regular notes of things which spark creativity, what happens is that the mind gets trained to recognize inspiration when it happens, rather than missing opportunities.
Styles and originality.
Perhaps you have read items which you consider to be boring or dull. Perhaps equally, you have seen work which pulls you into its' framework in such a way that it astounds you. Inspiration of how to present your style is gained from understanding the difference between the mediocre and the successful. Look at the elements which make that good work stand out from the bad. Take notes and learn, and use this to make your own work better.
The learning process is a long one, though once you understand your style, the inspiration you can find from working with publishers that enjoy that kind of style leads to a more successful career than expecting a publisher to step outside of the box and accept your work. Knowing you can produce work which fits their guidelines really does inspire. Look at the letter of acceptance
