HOW TO GET A WEB DESIGN JOB?
The web design domain is a very competitive one and to get a job in this aggressive field of work one needs to possess a creative mind and exceptional computer skills. These are some hints to assist in preparing your self as a web designer to get a job.
Be a Pro: Whatever software or programming language you choose to use make sure to specialize in it. Try to master the tools you choose to use for web design and know how to manipulate their design programming language.
Invest in URLs: Buy some URLs that will link to your portfolio of work. Design some websites that will clearly display your skills in web design and promote them on search engines, directories and classified ads.
Look Good: Work on a portfolio that will promote your web design skills to the world. Also work on an impressive resume listing your qualifications, education and work experience. These are tools that will assist the employer to spot what kind of skills you can bring in with you if you get hired by them.
Customize Your Look: Research the companies you are targeting in your job hunt and customize your resume and portfolio of work to highlight the skills mentioned in the requirements for the job they are advertising for.
Volunteer: Find a small company and volunteer to do their website for no charge. This will add value to your portfolio of work.
Create a Presence: Here are some ways to make your presence known:
1. Register and add your resume on job boards. Make sure to link to your portfolio of work.
2. Create a profile with a professional online networks.
3. Advertise on Classified Ads and link to your portfolio of work.
4. Network: Talk to friends and acquaintances and let them know that you are looking for work. Give them your resume and include a card with your portfolio on the web. As you meet new people, do not be afraid to mention that you are looking for work. This will open doors for you to promote your skills and maybe establish good work contacts.
Always Be Prepared: Keep your resume and your portfolio card (and/or business card) handy. You never know when you will need them. When you get an inquiry from an employer be quick to respond. Make sure to follow-up with that employer by phone within a weeks time.
Do not miss an opportunity to promote your skills as you never know when opportunity will knock!
