The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is best described by Jesus as recorded in The Gospel of John 16:5-15. It may be well to examine this scripture at the outset.
Jesus said to His disciples:
"But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, Where are You going?'
"But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
"But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper [ Greek Paracletos meaning one called alongside to help, comforter, advocate, intercessor] will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
"And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;
concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;
and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me;
and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
"I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
"He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.
"All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you".
God is a triune being composed of Spirit: Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. We cannot relate to God except by our spirits (John 4:21-24). The mind, emotions or human nature will never lead us to the knowledge of Christ. It is difficult to comprehend with the natural mind but each is a distinct person in God, yet they are entirely one Spirit. They are ONE (complete unity) and they desire us to be one with them. "In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you" (John 14:20).
Jesus goes on to describe the Spirit:
"These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and BRING TO YOUR REMEMBRANCE ALL THAT I SAID TO YOU" (John 14:25-26).
Let's break this all down. Jesus said a multitude of things while on earth. John said books of what he was and said would fill the whole world (John 21:25). Most of the real truths were spoken to the disciples, as Jesus knew the multitudes did not have the "eyes to see or ears to hear". However, the disciples who were with Christ while he was in the earth were largely immature
