No, you cannot always trust doctors that treat you. My main reason for saying that is because people know their bodies better than anyone else. Also remember that as a patient if you forget to tell them one thing then they may make an incorrect diagnosis.

The thing I can tell you there is even if you think what they are asking seems embarrassing there is a reason their asking and they have heard almost everything under the sun. The correct diagnosis may rely on that one response so reveal all and tell them any unusual behaviors or changes in your norm you may have.

Keep In Mind:

Everything you can enlighten them with is important you should even mention any major event that has happened in your life whether you think it relates or not. Stress of everyday life can bring about illness that can be easily treated but if you say nothing then the doctor may treat a condition that may or may not exist and your symptoms may persist and you get frustrated along with the doctor because neither one of you are getting the relief you think you should be getting.

No Worries:

You are paying the doctor and his/her staff and thus you should be satisfied with the services they provide. Do not let the fact that the doctors have a several patients in other examining rooms and more in the waiting area to hinder you from asking questions and understanding your diagnosis, prognosis, medications he prescribed or even any other concerns you may have stop you. You have the right to know about your medical health and why she/he is doing what they are doing. They can only do as much as you allow them so if you look like you are in a rush they will be quick to get you out. Don't be afraid to say Wait! I was wondering' or I have a question?' they appreciate the patient caring and input into their own health, they may also change their diagnosis if they get more knowledge into your symptoms and life events.

In Closing:

You need to be your own advocate and if you don't agree don't leave until you get a reason behind the diagnosis they chose to give you. Most doctors do listen, at least the newer ones. They value patients' input and do care what you have to say. Remember too that no matter what insurances say you have the right to a second opinion, ask for it don't shy away. Cancers and other illness may be found or misdiagnosed if you only get that one opinion. Also don't forget you know your body the best.
