Anna's Catch' by Debra Dando
Ian sat at his desk staring out into space. What else could he possibly add to this confounded web page? Why hadn't Gary been given this project? It would have been much more his sort of thing. Yes, boring old Gary, it would have been right up his street. What more could be said about an old village pub out in the sticks? Do people actually still live out there? Fox & Goose' hardly original was it? No, the Formula One Team or the City Penthouse Development had been much more Ian's style. He picked up his designer sunglasses and headed for the door a Cappuccino at Zak's was definitely what he needed right now!
He made his way out into the bustling high street and across the road, dodging mopeds & lorries with their impatient flashing lights and booming horns. The sudden change of pace made his head spin thank God, he felt alive again! Mother, is that you?' He could see his mother on the pavement, coming towards him. Ian, my dear, come with me I have something of the utmost importance to show you'. Ian followed his mother to the car park, where her white E Type gleamed in the bright sunshine. He hadn't realised his mother had still been in contact with her. Perhaps she'd now seen the error of her ways and had wanted to meet up with him again, realising just what a hot catch he was. Ian smiled smugly.
Why here, of all places?' asked Ian as they pulled up outside the Fox & Goose pub at Rowberrow Hollow. His mother just gave him one of her knowing glances & he found himself begrudgingly following her like a lamb to the slaughter. They entered the big oak door and were immediately overwhelmed by the presence of a huge white goose! The goose ushered them into a throne-like golden seat which then proceeded to slide along rail tracks towards the bar. Behind the bar stood a fox, complete with waist coat and pocket watch. Ian was dumbfounded. The fox spoke, Good day to you sir. How about a pint of our famous Black Speckled Hen' or perhaps
