Essays: Why I write

I write for many reasons but the biggest reason is because its in my blood. I simply must write. Writing is my courage, expression, sorted thoughts, and memory method. It's my etiquette side, recorded achievements, and goals. Writing is the way I evaluate myself and things around me.

I was very shy as a child. I've grown out of some of it but I have found writing as a way of being courageous. It is my brave voice. It helps me say the things I normally wouldn't because of shyness. I can express the way I feel and think. We all have strong beliefs and must stand behind them. Through writing, I am able to not only express my beliefs, but give reasons why I feel the way I do.

Writing is the window to my thoughts, in an organized manner. Writing helps me to take a thought and build around it in essay form. A thought is merely a thought until it is evaluated. It then becomes important or trivial data, depending on the outcome.

There is much to be said about writing as a memory method. When I study, I will remember something twice as long, if I have written it out on paper. And if I forget, I know I can refer back to the paper I've written on, provided I keep papers organized.

Writing is my etiquette side. I am not nearly as proper when I speak. I have a Southern accent coated with much slang. I sometimes stumble for words. Often, the words don't come out as well as I'd like. Nothing against the way I talk. I am who I am and my speech is part of my personality- down-to-earth. But I do have a proper side, which I like to demonstrate in my writing.

We all have achievements, some greater than others, but they are there to be recorded. We need to write these achievements down and share them with each other. One man may save a country while another man may only save a cat from a tree. The cat story will touch many pet-lovers' hearts, maybe more than the story about the man who saved a country. This gives variety for people's difference in reading taste. Everyone's stories, no matter how menial, may be of interest to some avid reader.

Writing our goals keep us focused. We should all have something we are striving to achieve. I know of two good reasons for this. For one, we are never there. We should never think we have made it to the top, where we no longer have anything to do or learn. And for two, without goals, we will suddenly realize that years have gone by without accomplishing anything. All those years were as good as wasted. We need to get our goals from thought to paper,
