Science fiction movies are one of my favorite genres of movies. I love being placed in a world of strange creatures that we would never see, characters who fight said strange creatures in space or on other worlds and the special effects.
That being said, I have to admit that *gasp* I am not a Star Trek fan. I have never been a fan of William Shatner, nor can I connect with Spock or Bones or any of the other characters on the Starship Enterprise. I know, I know I'm weird. That being said, here are my favorite science fiction movies.
Star Wars. When I say Star Wars, I actually mean the first trilogy. The others were a disappointment to me. I loved the plot of the first three movies and the characters. Luke Skywalker, the young man who wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a Jedi Knight. The one who found out that Darth Vader did kill his father but only because the Dark Force took him over. That Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, was his father. Luke grew a lot through the movies, finally becoming a very strong Jedi Knight in his own right. One that fought his father not only with his light saber, but with his love. Love that eventually turned Darth back into Anakin. Add the characters of Han, the lovable rogue turned warrior that fell in love with Luke's twin sister, Leia, Chewbacca, even R2D2 and C3P0 and you have a wonderful and timeless movie that no science fiction lover will ever forget.
Serenity. What would a science fiction favorites list be with Joss Whedon and one of his creations? Serenity actually came about after Fox canceled the television show, "Firefly". The pilot episode was called Serenity, thus the name of the movie. Fox aired only 11 of 14 episodes of "Firefly" before canceling this show. Not only that, they aired them out of their intended order thus confusing viewers. After the cancellation of this space cowboy show, Joss wrote the screenplay for Serenity. Because DVD sales were so high, Universal Studios took a chance and the film "Serenity" was finally made.
The movie, which Joss describes as a "futuristic space western"is about a crew of ex-rebels who attempt to make a living on outer planets while hiding a psychic fugitive and finding out many government secrets. This movie has excellent special effects, the cast is awesome, and of course, Joss Whedon's weird sense of humor which makes it all the better to watch.
The most memorable and funniest moment had to be the "Fruity Oaty Bars" commercial that has a hidden code in it
