ANOTHER DAWN
A man once stood atop a cliff,
His hair swept back, his mind adrift,
He stood and pondered life and death,
And blinking tears he drew a breath.
What would be uttered from his lips?
A curse, a song, or offhand quips?
What had the man climbed up to say,
Perched high atop the cliff this day?
As words were sounded, all was still,
They echoed loudly, hill to hill,
With bleating lambs across a field,
This man's desires at last revealed.
"God, why have you deserted me?!?!"
The man picked up a piece of scree,
And threw it hard towards the sky.
Perhaps he hoped for some reply.
Well at that moment, sunlight broke,
The clouds were split, a soft voice spoke,
It seemed so distant, yet so near,
His words were effortless to hear.
"My darling child, through all these years,
As life was hard, you faced your fears.
Not once did I abandon you,
Each day my love began, anew.
"Then why do I feel so alone?"
Inquired the man, wishing he'd known,
Just how intentions turn to dust,
Despite them sounding so robust.
"Although my love will never die,
Nor would I ever say goodbye,
When those I love shut out the light,
What can I do, to shine as bright?"
"I'll always guide you, best I can,
But free will's more than just a plan.
It's what I've given you to hold,
You cherish it far more than gold."
"As you begin to pull those blinds,
Let in my light, darkness declines.
And very soon the warmth and light,
Will fill your life, to your delight."
The man fell silent, for he knew,
His cries of anger were undue,
He had indeed shut out the light,
When troubled times were black as night.
He ambled down the rocky slope,
His mind anew with love and hope,
No more would he shut out the Lord,
His confidence and faith restored.
