An example of karmic retribution starts with a young lady who we shall call Miss Black. Miss Black thought she had everything, and she did. She had the best job, a nice boyfriend, a beautiful home, a truck load of friends and an equally large wardrobe. Life was looking pretty damn good for Miss Black and the only real problem that she actually had was she wasn't very nice to people.
Miss black would comment on how ugly' a friends new outfit or hair color was, she would laugh at people who were going through hard times, and worst of all, she was cheating on her boyfriend, having one night stands after girls nights out. Miss Black also found stealing from her friends a profitable past time, regardless for the fact she had a lot of money and many nice things herself.
Eventually, Miss Black lost her boyfriend, who had found out about her cheating. Then she lost her job. Her friends started to discover the things that she had stolen from them so eventually she started losing her friends. She couldn't afford to keep her house without her job, so eventually she lost her house and she had to move into a small one bedroom apartment. She had tried for several months to try to gain more employment, but every job interview she attended was fruitless. Miss Black had a string of bad luck that would not seem to leave her.
Even though she was my friend and I cared about her deeply, there was some evil little thing inside me that couldn't help but to put it down as karmic retribution. Eventually, I moved in with Miss Black, where we shared the bills and the rent. Everything was going well. Miss Black had gained employment and she was doing her fair share and she was being a little bit nicer to those around her.
One day, Miss Black lost her job. She signed up for government support and for a while, she was still keeping up with rent payments. Every now and then she would ask me to cover her half because she had little money and I would agree. Until every week when the rent was due, she would still have no money. On the weekends, Miss Black was out shopping for clothes and spending the nights out in the pubs while I stayed at home broke, because I had to pay rent, buy food, and pay the bills each week. Eventually, I had had enough of being used by Miss Black, and had moved out. I had moved back into my mother's house until I could find another house. I agreed to still be friends with Miss Black, and to leave on good terms.
A few months later, I began to receive abusive calls from my so called good friend, demanding money out of me for supposedly unpaid telephone bills I had left her. After paying her half of the rent for weeks on end, I was quite insulted by this accusation. She threatened to take me to court for back rent, utility bills, whatever she could think of to get money off me. After a while, I refused to talk to her.
A few months later, I found out the real reason why she wanted money. She had become addicted to amphetamines. The last time I saw her, she was living alone in a small apartment with hardly any furniture, and she was alone. She no longer had the perfect job, a nice boyfriend and a truck load of friends. Part of me feels sorry for her, and another part tells me that this could be a lesson in life to treat others with the respect that they deserve and to be nice.
