Poetry: Hats

by Paul Gaudet

Created on: September 22, 2008

Silly hat,

He sits playing with his toys
Not a care in the world
There is a smile on his face
For which he does not understand one word

Today is his birthday and he is only 2
On this day is for him like any other
Little did we all know of future
As we celebrate to be with him we gather

He lifts his head away from his toys
Seeing something what caught his eye
Gets up to leave his toys behind
And walks over to reach the above him high

He reaches for it, it is only a silly hat
It is not his but he does not care
He puts it on his head and walks around
The house saying "I grandpa"

Little did I know how precious
That moment would be to me
As it melted my entire heart
But now I know for it is a memory
As this one has been gone
Almost 4 years he has departed
And we have been since apart

He was our little peanut
And he will never leave my heart
Though he is now an angel of heaven
Watching over the ones I love
And has a new one to watch over
Who is only one year old
Though had a tough year to a start
