Job hunting nowadays is a tedious and harrowing undertaking amidst the economic recession occurring all around the world; that is why when looking for employment you should consider first jobs in your local area, before venturing farther into other places. The proximity of the job to your house would significantly decrease your daily expenses and would have cost-cutting advantages.
But how does one start a local job search?
1.
First, you will have to know what type of job you are qualified for. Of course the primary consideration would be your profession. This should be the primary position that you should apply for.
2.
Prepare an impressive resume. You can surf the internet for sample templates of these types of letters, but do not copy the letter verbatim as everyone has access to the internet nowadays. What do you think would the prospective employer feel if he reads exactly the same words of your application letter in his computer?
3.
Mention all related activities to the position you're applying for. Don't underestimate yourself but don't overestimate as well. Don't say: "I will build this company to be the greatest multi-national company in this locality". State instead that "I will contribute my expertise to make this company more progressive."
4.
If you are acquainted with a respected and well known persona in your locality, then solicit for his recommendation or referral letter.
5.
After preparing your resume, go over the ads section of all your local newspapers to facilitate the search for prospective employers.
6.
Searching the internet for jobs in your locality, would also facilitate your task. You could take a walk around your locality for notices posted on windows or billboards. Never inquire over the phone for any vacancy.
7.
Get to know more about the company you plan to join in. Go around and interview friends who know about the policies, rules and regulations of the company. Better yet, acquire one of their prospectus and read it thoroughly.
8.
When you're ready, go personally to their office and apply. Remember to bring along all pertinent papers for your application. Knowing everything there is to know about the company, would make your future employer happy that you have a genuine interest in their operations.
One advantage of applying for a local job is that you will be able to know which company is a good company, based on the endorsements of people you know who may have worked or is still working for the company. Take advantage of this local job search and reap the rewards that go with local exposure and good public relations in your quest for that "most aspired for" job.
