One of the most embarrassing moments of my life occurred when I was sick with malaria and had to be given a cold shower to lower my temperature by a female nurse.
I was taken to the hospital because I was showing all the symptoms of malaria. I did not have appetite to eat, high body temperature and a serious headache. as I sat waiting in the doctors surgery I kept praying and appealing to my temperature not to go up any higher as this would mean the " the shower" as most of my friends referred to it.
The moment of truth was getting closer as the nurse came by and slipped the thermometer in my mouth. I shut my eyes and hung my head. Moments later she came and took the thermometer from my mouth. Her immediate reaction was shock and her eyes bulged know was guilty and will be punished accordingly.
I knew already what had to be done and began to prepare myself mentally for my execution. A cold shower is alike torture for malaria patients because although the patients' external temperature is high, due to the activity of the malaria parasite, they are actually feeling extremely cold due to the damage being done to their body by the illness.
I felt dejected. The fact that I was sitting a room smelling of anti biotic and disinfectant which was filled with coughing people, hyperactive toddlers and gossiping mothers made it horrible.
I felt things could not be any worse than the way they were already. Then another female nurse walked up to me and said to me "master oshobe due to your high temperature you would have to take a cold shower to lower your temperature. I would observe you to make sure you shower for the correct duration before you go and see the doctor."
I was expecting a nurse but not a female nurse and surely not a young one. I did not want to be naked in her presence. As we walked towards the shower I felt like arguing my case I wanted her to know I was capable of taking a showering on my own, but I knew that she would refuse as this was job. I wanted to ask for a male nurse but was afraid of sounding silly and each time I summoned the courage to speak I found myself asking for directions to the shower like I had never been here before.
When we go to the showering hurriedly took off my clothes so that she could see that I was not scared. I did not know if this made an impression. All I know is that the next fifteen minutes were horrible. The water was freezing and I had to take deep long breathes. I knew if I put my hands over my genitals she would probably see that I was nervous about my nudity. If I had my back to her this would give here the opportunity to giggle silently behind my back and if I was not enjoying myself then why should she. She stared at me and I stared back.
As the last minute for the shower passed I stepped out and began to dry myself. The nurse left as I began to put on my clothes. Throughout the whole thing we had not said a word to each other. The torture was over and I began to feel better already.
