"The Wrath of Self Reflection"
She tilts her head to study the naked reflection in the mirror,
She runs a hand over a round belly and cups a lazy breast with the other,
Ashamed, she averts her eyes just for a moment.
She dares to peek into the mirror again,
Hoping in vain to see someone else,
Something else,
Anything but this...
A scar on her lip, a mark on her tooth,
Hips just a little too wide.
She yells at the mirror, "This isn't who I am?!"
She wonders if this is all they see and if this is how they measure her,
Is she worthless if she doesn't measure up?
Our eyes are supposed to be the windows to our souls,
The heart of who we are,
She leans into the mirror to look a little deeper...
After reaching into those big, brown eyes,
She comes up empty handed.
