Why military intervention in Darfur, Sudan would be a more noble cause than the Iraq War

and what's wrong is wrong. Most sane people can agree that genocide is wrong. Many of us common folk don't have the voice to scream loud enough to politicians to right a wrong. But if we are all educated properly about it, then together we can effectively define out morals as a unit. If we collectively told our government that this is wrong and we won't stand for it, then this genocide would come to an end a lot faster than we think and a whole lot cheaper than the Iraq war.

4. Political
Our country always strives to be an excellent example for the world. We possess the best military equipment, the most highly trained secret agents and the best soldiers in the world. Yet, our government can't seem to use these tools for the right fight. Our soldiers are the most compassionate on the planet and an assignment like this one is the reason why many of them serve our country.

5. Emotional
Babies, mothers, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, grandmothers and grandfathers are being mercilessly slaughtered and raped because of their ethnicity. Children who should be concerned with what they will wear to school tomorrow are praying to die by bullet as opposed to machete. Sure, we are miles and miles away from Africa but if we stood up and demanded that our government immediately protect masses of helpless people, then we have a chance at giving these families hope. These people look just like you and me. And they love their families just like we do.

It has been almost a year since the United Nations authorized a peacekeeping force to protect civilians. This force was intended to serve as a commitment to stop the genocide. However, almost 12 months later, and with hundreds of thousands of people dead, only a fraction of the force has been deployed. There are only nearly 2,000 peacekeeping troops in the region. And those 2,000 lack the essential resources to be effective. According to the Save Darfur organization, only 24 helicopters were assigned to protect the people of Darfur, but only four have been offered.

Throughout history, there have been wars, genocides and many horrific tragedies. We have become so immune to violence through movies and television that it doesn't even seem real when something like this happens. Reality is that the genocide in Darfur is real. What's more important is that it can be stopped. Just as the world turns to America to step up and lead, we can lead the end of this genocide by putting pressure on our government and guilty financial institutions to end this genocide and give a new beginning to our sisters and brothers in Darfur.
