How to start the child adoption process

So you want to adopt! You want to take a child or children into your home and give them the love and attention that every child deserves. What a wonderful idea. Yup! So go on down to your local Wal-Mart and pick one out today! Boy I wish it were that easy! My husband and I would have a dozen kids! In all honesty adopting is not the easiest thing to do. Getting starting and the waiting are the hardest! Mostly the waiting is the hardest.

My husband and I thought for sure that once we were married, we would start having kids. Turns out I'm not so fertile. So we decided to adopt. We would look into adopting an infant. We figured that would be the easiest. Any trauma the little dear had gone through would not be remembered and they would consider us family all their life. I called up local private agencies to ask about details and how to get started. When I was told the cheapest price to adopt a child would be about $10,000, my heart sunk to my feet. If I could have afforded that I would have looked into inventro. Then we looked into adopting over seas. Well it is usually more expensive to do that, than it is to adopt locally. Not to mention a lot of states now are making it harder for people to adopt over seas. Why? Think about it. There are thousands of children in your own state that desperately need a good home. A lot of people don't want to do that though. The child may be too old, handicapped or traumatized by what has happened to them. A lot of people want to make it as easy as they can to bring a child into their home. You can't really blame them! It's not like if things don't work out you can just exchange them for a different model. However, local state agencies need your help. That was the final place we wound up looking at.

We got in touch with them and they signed us up. They did a background check on us and sent us to a school to learn how to adopt and foster children. Once we finished the schooling (about 4 weeks) they assigned us to a case worker. She came out and talked with us and inspected our house. Once everything cleared she told us she would keep and eye out for a child for us. She also recommend signing up for www.adoptuskids.com These are listings of children from all over the US that need homes. The service is free and they basically keep an eye out for a child or children that match your discription in what you are looking for. Example: "Married Caucasian couple looking to adopt 2 children. :Race does not matter. :Age range: 0-10 :Special
