There are Four different types or classes of Fire Extinguishers, For specific types of fires. For example:(Class A- Wood and Paper Fires, Class B -grease and gasoline etc., Class C - electrical fires , Class D - flammable metals.)

The newer fire extinguishers use pictures. The old fire extinguishers was labeled with colored geometrical shapes with letters designation. If you are living in a home with a fireplace it is very important that you consider owning a fire extinguisher, and having it located near a fireplace.

The most important thing about having a fire extinguisher in your home is making sure that you have the right kind. You can have a class-A fire extinguisher which deals with wood and paper but if you have electronics, I would consider a halon extinguisher.

Once you have a extinguisher in your home it will have to be tested by a licensed fire extinguisher technician , then inspected once a year , it only needs to replaced if you use it or every six years for maintenance. A lot of people don't like the look of fire extinguishers but if you like antiques then you would love to have a antique fire extinguisher in your home. They make a good decorative object. And if you don't like antiques then you can always get a fire cabinet to place your fire extinguishers in. If you have a wood stove in your home it's best that you also maintain a fire extinguisher at all cost.

Other great things that would be good to have is fireplace accessories such as: shovels fire porkers etc. Over all the years fire extinguishers has been here and all the fires that we've had all around the world only about half of the fires weren't put out with fire extinguisher, but more than half has, so please consider a fire extinguisher in your home. If you didn't understand what I have been writing you just remember this (you live in a home that means you cook, wash clothes, etc.)

Imagine if one day you were cooking and the stove caught on fire but you had no extinguisher, you would have to call 911 it may take them five minutes to get there, in that five mintues you could of lost your home and maybe your life.
