There are a variety of foods that can be ingested to facilitate and/or maintain healthy skin, and these foods are similar to the foods and superfoods that should be eaten to maintain health in other capacities.
We can begin with fresh salmon, and I believe anyone interested in adopting an eating plan that assists in procuring beautiful, glowing skin will be interested in reading Nicholas Perricone's book, The Wrinkle Cure. All of his books are excellent, and he consistently speaks of the importance of a healthy diet in maintaining a beautiful appearance for the skin while smoothing wrinkles at the same time.
In addition, Dr. Perricone emphasizes the importance of adopting some simplistic habits that we often take for granted, and reiterates the importance of drinking fresh water, eating a simple diet, obtaining plenty of sleep, and reducing our intake of cigarettes, alcohol, processed foods and simple carbohydrates. He also talks about the inflammatory damages caused by blood sugar rises, and says that "[T]he first important item" in an anti-inflammatory method of eating is salmon.
Again, we are told that the Omega 3 oil content in salmon is crucial, and part of the importance of Omega 3 oils is their ability to "nourish the brain" and "alleviate mental depression" while giving the skin enough nourishment that the Omega 3 oils will give skin "a radiant and beautiful appearance." Salmon also contains DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol), and DMAE is considered important for increasing muscle tone, while also decreasing sagging. What a powerhouse food for healthy skin! (Incidentally, sardines contain DMAE, too.)
He also mentions the important of fresh, leafy green salads, seeds and nuts, fresh berries as well as canteloupe (high amounts of vitamin A) for the antioxidant content. Perricone recommends exchanging green and black teas for coffee of any kind. While I do not eat ONLY salmon, I have eaten like this for up to 10 days at a time in order to fast and pray, while cleansing and toning my body, and I can testify to the radiant skin that results from this style of eating (often within 2 or 3 days). I will add some extra virgin olive oil, or omega 3-6-9 oils and a little organic butter to lightly steamed vegetables, and I feel wonderful when I follow this method of eating. Not only does my skin look radiant, but my mind is sharp.
Another powerhouse food for the skin, and one containing high amounts of antioxidants, is pomegranates. While many people are consuming the juice,
