Coping with anxiety in the workplace

Anxiety can really interfere in your life when it comes to your job. We all have to make money, but when work makes you nervous it can be hard to go in each day. Maybe you're uncomfortable where you work, or you're afraid to find a new job because of the anxiety that comes with leading a working life. The secret to overcoming anxiety on the job is to remember these three tricks of the trade:

1) Find Work You Love

The easiest way to begin to adjust to your job is to find work that you enjoy. You're not necessarily going to start out with you perfect dream job, but you can certainly find something that's related. Make a list of your hobbies and interests that you enjoy most. Search for jobs that might be related to this interests. Some ideas might be a library or bookstore for book lovers, a pet store or animal shelter for animal enthusiasts, or a bakery for cooking fanatics. The more excited you are to go to work each day, the less likely you'll be to stress out while you're there. You'll also feel more comfortable talking to people at work because you'll have some knowledge about what area it is you're working in.

2) Meet the Employees

While you can't go in and ask to meet the employees before starting a job, you normally can hang out and see what the atmosphere is like and how the managers act. Unless it's a private company where someone wouldn't walk in without an appointment, choose a few days to go and hang out and see what it's like to work there. You'll have a better idea of the atmosphere and feel more prepared if you're hired. It's also a good way to see how the managers treat the employees. Try to catch them on a buys day to understand how everyone works under pressure, and if you think you can handle it. A job that doesn't get as much business will be easier to work at if you're alright with getting a few less hours.

3) Explore Your Options

Don't limit yourself to the stressful fast food life or a cooperate job with a hateful boss. There are many options available to suit each person's individual needs. Look for local businesses that might be hiring. If you're good at making something, consider starting your own. If you're good at making crafts, try setting up an online store or selling them on Ebay. You could also work online as a freelance writer for sites like Helium. They're a great way to earn money without having to worry about anxiety. Whatever you choose, just take your time and don't expect things to change over night.
