It is a rare occasion when anyone will recommend owning a credit card. Too many people have gotten into overwhelming debt. Credit cards make getting what you want today instead of waiting to save the money an option. Our whole society has come to expect instant gratification. We see something that we would like to have and we must have it now whether or not we can afford it.
You need to know your spending and payment style before you can safely think about the benefits of using the Home Depot Credit Card. In order to reap the benefits that the card offers you have to be able to pay off the balance of new charges every month. If you are not willing or able to do this then it will be a better idea for you to use another credit card to shop at Home Depot.
The main benefit that is always offered is that you receive six months of free interest on all purchases over $299. What happens is that the interest accumulates but you don't have to pay it if you balance is paid off in advance of the six month date. You will be given a warning on your bill the month that you payment is due in full. You are also not required to make any payments on that $299 or more during that six month period. It is only a good idea to defer the full amount if you know for sure you will be able to pay the whole balance when it becomes due or you will be charged the full six months worth of interest and it is at a very high rate.
Several times a year you will also be offered the opportunity to defer payment and interest for a full year. This can be a great benefit if you are going to do a major project on your home. Especially if you are going to be doing a repair that will make your home more energy efficient this can be a major savings of both interest and energy.
In addition there will be promotions that are only available to Home Depot Credit card holders. You may be able to purchase certain items at a sale price or you may get notice of an upcoming sale in advance of the regular consumer.
Home Depot also offers a charge card that has a rewards program that will allow you to get some benefits from shopping at the Home Depot and with their card. Before you consider all the benefits of using a Home Depot Credit Card be sure that you also consider all the draw backs. If you can't afford to pay your bill when it comes due then it was of no benefit to you and can even damage your credit. Credit is not something to be treated lightly.
In conclusion if you have a good handle on your finances and you want to do some home repairs there are some real benefits that can be had by using the Home Depot Credit card.
