Superfoods are foods that are considered to be foods with a high phytonutrient content; in other words, they "go the extra mile." These foods are considered to confer unique health benefits, and these (benefits) are often identified within the first day or two of consuming some of these foods, especially when other additives, salt, and processed flour and sugar is removed from your diet at the same time.
While many people are probably aware of what this list of superfoods might look like, I am not certain we hear much about their benefits. This article is a humble beginning to procure an opportunity and share some of the exciting information that I have gleaned through reading, eating, teaching, and receiving information from a variety of other sources; one of whom would be my naturopathic physician.
Some of the benefits are seemingly obvious, but eating the foods and eating them in a wise, and common sense fashion can be two different things. If a person eats "superfoods" without a lot of salt, sugar, additives, dressings, stale oils, or cloying desserts, superfoods are able to CONFER their benefits as they always have, historically, without having their effects clouded or undermined by the addition of unnecessary decorative "foods" or NON-superfoods.
So, just to begin with, it is equally important what we do NOT eat, as it is what we DO eat. I repeat: A bad addition to a superfood diet can undermine the very benefits these foods can confer. What are the benefits? In another article of mine, one of the most inexpensive foods that I mentioned is garlic. Imagine that these cloves cost pennies, yet the most reputable magazines, researchers, and physicians will admit that the lowly and pungent clove of garlic must now be recognized as an immune-boosting food, as well as a food that can SHRINK TUMORS. Due to the enormous amounts of cancer of varying kinds in our society, this, to me, is surely the most exciting benefit from one of the most, if not THE most, inexpensive foods that is available in any supermarket.
Another benefit is that when we eat superfoods such as fresh berries, fruits, vegetables, etc., we are inundating our body with weaponry to FIGHT free radicals and the toxins that are presently identified (or unidentified) in our environments; whether in our water, our air, our soil, or our meats and fish. Did you know that eating an apple or two a day not only "keeps the doctor away" but also helps reduce HEAVY METALS in your body? (Grandma certainly knew
