The Jerusalem Cross is a popular symbol often used in religious and fashion jewelry. The story behid the Jerusalem cross dates back to the days of early christianity, and holds deep roots in the origins of the battle for the holy land that still continues today. The Jerusalem cross has many names. It is also know as the Crusader's cross, the Five Fold cross, the Cantonee cross, and the Crux Immissa Quadrata. Crux in latin translates to a cross. Imissa, To mix in; Intermingle; Join with, unite. Quadrdrata, To make square; To join properly together. There are many different translations of the symbolism of the Crusader's cross. The cross itself is compromised of five crosses, four Tau crosses meet in the center to form a Greek cross. A Tau cross, also known as St. Anthony's cross , the Egyptian cross, and Crux Commissa, is shaped like the letter "T". St. Francis of Assisi also used this as his personal signature. Here are a few of the symbolic explanations for the Jerusalem cross. Some believe the large center cross indicates Jesus, while the four smaller crosses are for each crucifix wound he recieved. This cross was also said to express the five nations active in the crusades. These countries were: Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Last but not least, this cross of many meanings was also said to represent Jesus, and the spread of his teachings to the four corners of the Earth. The Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem used this symbol on it's coat of arms from 1099 to 1203 AD. The kingdom itself didn't have a very long run of it, but it's prolific symbol still holds the weight of importance for many.

There are lots of options to consider when buying Jerusalem cross jewelry. The most popular item would be a cross pendant. A Jerusalem cross pendant comes in various materials to fit many budgets and tastes. Some of the most common would most likely be a silver Jerusalem cross, gold, bronze, copper, and even wood from an ancient tree in Jerusalem. Whatever style you choose , you are not only making a wonderul fashion statement, you're also giving rememberance and respect to all the brave souls that fought and died for an ideal they truly believed in.
