From my female perspective and having been on quite a few first dates in my life, there are several dumb things that a guy can do to ruin a first date. When going on first date, you should be on your best behavior and trying to give off the best impression of yourself you can. I'm not sure if men think the same way though. Now, I am not talking about all men, but there are quite a few men that seem not to know how to act on the first date.

Here are the top five things a guy can do to ruin a first date

1. Show up late for the date
This is probably one of the biggest mistakes there are for a first date. No one, be it the female or the male should show up late for a first date. It just starts the first date out on the completely wrong foot. It shows the date that you don't respect your date enough to value her time. If you have trouble arriving for events and dates on time, make sure that you allow yourself an extra 30 minutes to account for that. It is better to show up 15 minutes early than 15 minutes late.

2. Go in the first date thinking he will get lucky
Any man who thinks this should not be going on first dates, but should just stick to picking woman up at bars late at night. Almost all woman go on dates to find a relationship or a boyfriend. They don't go on dates just to have sex with a guy. If a man goes into the first date thinking he will get lucky with the girl then it can easily ruin the date. Being too overly aggressive or touchy-feeling can put woman off, especially being that you just met. Instead, go into a first date willing to get to know her mind and not her body.

3. Talk or text on his cell phone
When on a first date, all your attention should be on your date, not on who's calling you or what you are planning for the next night. If you have work calls coming in, then you need to ignore them for the date. If it is positively urgent then excuse yourself to the bathroom and use make a quick call or text in there, but don't let it run over 2-3 minutes. Answering your cell phone or even just checking it often will definitely ruin it for the woman. Why should she have to compete for your attention when she is on a date with you?

4. Be someone who you aren't
I know that men get nervous and anxious about first dates just like woman do. Well, one sure way to ruin a first date is to be someone you are not. You don't have to be this macho, manly-man guy all the time. On the other hand, you don't have to be this push over who lets a woman run all over you. Just plain and simple, be yourself. If you and your date aren't compatible, then that's fine. It's going to happen and it might even happen very often. Why fake being someone just to please your date?

5. Talking bad about your exes
No woman wants to hear about your ex-girlfriends on the first date. In fact, most women don't want to hear about ex-girlfriends at all. Do not compare your date to an ex. Don't talk bad about an ex. Bringing up any past exes and baggage that you have is a sure fire sign to your date that she should move on to the next guy. Leave your past relationships at the door and don't bring them up.
