Global warming: Is it as bad as it's made out to be?

I believe global warming is real and very significant.

I have also heard that I am a member of the church of global warming, said to me as an insult by a person that I though previously was intelligent.

Certain facts pertaining to the argument for global warning are indisputable. For instance the rise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, deforestation, over population, and the loss of habitat and loss of farmland due to urban sprawl not only in America but worldwide.

The carbon dioxide level now is higher than ever in history. At least viewed through the the testing of ice core samples that have been taken at both poles and dating back some 600,000 years. The fact the global temperature and carbon dioxide levels mirror each other so well is pretty convincing evidence that the warming is occurring and both will continue to climb concurrently. Also a reduction in carbon emissions can be obtained with hard work and sacrifice, and that these measures will have a profound effect on the whole system, both if taken or ignored.

Deforestation is also indisputable. The loss of forests, or any land not turned to concrete, takes away the ability of the system to change carbon dioxide to oxygen. There is no debating the fact that the process of photosynthesis changes carbon dioxide to oxygen. So it only makes sense, fewer plants less photosynthesis.

Over population is possibly the greatest contributor to global warming. It may be the single most significant factor in all of the world's problems.A very touchy subject because most people believe that everyone else is the problem. Of course it is never their children, family, country, ethnicity or religion that is adding undue pressure on the population. Until this mindset is overcome little progress can or will be made. How obvious can it be, less people less consumption.

Although America is the main contributor to carbon dioxide emissions,it cannot solve the problem alone. And all the factors I have stated above have to be taken into consideration in order to come up with a plan of action. I have of course totally over simplified the problem and it will take much smarter people than I to identify the contributors to the problem and come up with workable solutions, but inaction is unconscionable, immoral and possibly fatal.

I hope that people will take some time and study the issues so we might band together and find some solutions.
