There are things to consider before dating as a single parent and they can be numerous. While some seem more important than others they are all important. Children don't like change that they have no voice in and they are going to react to the fact that you are dating. You might want to sit them down and talk to them prior to reentering the single life.

How long have you been single? Are you ready to date again or are you just tired of being alone and want someone to help you carry your responsibilities? The reason that you are dating again is something that you should be aware of because it does affect your children as much as it does you. You want to be ready to date before you ever agree to go out.

Where your child will be while you are out on dates is something else to consider before you begin dating. You will need to know who is caring for your child whether it's the weekend they spend at the other parent's home or if you are going to have to hire a sitter for them. The age of the child will be a large factor in whether or not they can stay home alone while you are out.

Is it for just a few hours? Are you going to be gone during the day or at night? Is it a lunch date or a dinner date? If you are just getting back into the world of dating you might be more comfortable having lunch together instead of going out at night. You will want to know how long you are going to be gone in order to make proper arrangements for a sitter or for your children to have done their homework while you are gone.

Whether or not you are ready to date is only part of the picture. You have to consider your child's reaction as well. Are they going to act out or are they going to be accepting? You have to be ready to discuss your child's feelings with them. They will have an opinion and you have to be prepared for it no matter what it might be.

How soon are you going to introduce your child to your date? When are you going to tell your date you have children? How are you going to tell them? Are you looking for just a few dates or are you ready for a commitment? There are some people that prefer to wait until they get into a more committed relationship before they introduce their children to them while others take it step by step and introduce the person they are dating to their children from the start.

The things to consider before dating as a single parent are numerous and each one should be carefully thought out before you make your decision.
