The definition of Fate as prescribed by two dictionaries basically calls it 'Something inveitable; destiny; inevitable necessity'. I think a better suited question would be is life a choice or fate? Death is a guarantee. Life, on the other hand, is never. Death is an equal opportunity toller. Death cares not if you're beautiful, rich, genius, compassionate, saintly, slovenly, overweight or underpaid. Beyond that, for some reason unbeknownst to me Death comes and plucks the pretty flowers, and leaves the weeds. For some people Death most certainly IS a choice. For most folks however, that is not a choice they give themselves option to excercise. I don't believe in the idea of a predestined way to go. What value would the gift of free will be to us if everything was already mapped out by some cosmic puppeteer,walking the dog with the World as his yo-yo? I truly believe in that old saying that parents and coaches almost have to tell you at least 3 times each: "It's not whether you win or lose, it's HOW you play the game." So many of us spend useless amounts of time fearing , pondering, anticipating Death that we're wasting precious minutes of Life time. A few minutes in any manner of circumstance could change the course of someone's entire life for good or ill depending on the situation. Sixty, ninety, one-hundred and twenty little seconds could mean the difference between crossing that street a moment too late, going into that convenience store a trigger too soon, arriving at work a minute and a half before that ten car pile up, turning the corner and being witnessed being witness to something you wanted nothing to do with. Likewise, what if you made it to a meeting a little off schedule and ended up unknowingly chit chatting it up with the big boss, charming his socks off, and yourself into a better position. The possibilities when dealing with things such as fate and destiny are truly endless. However no matter how well you walk the maze, how successful or unsuccessful you may be in your meanderings through life, it's always the same door we'll end up at- every time. Instead of seeing yourself on a runaway train , with a one-way ticket into Brick Wall, look at it like a roller coaster of Fate. You stood in line to get on, waited patiently for your turn, you got on, you went up, you went down, you went round and round, up and down and freefall til you thought you would puke, and just had so much fun , you didn't even realize it was almost time to get off. And then you get right back in line, and do it all over again. That's where the choice is. In choosing to live , we are also accepting that it's our Fate one way or another, to die.
